Okay okay, so I know this sounds a bit too good to be true, but I am a firm believer in indulging in what you want every once in a while!
I have an extremely sweet tooth. If it weren't for all my Zumba classes, dance rehearsals and kettlebells, I'd probable be a MUCH larger lady. However, I am a firm believer in recognising those little impulses every now and again and just having whatever it is you want.
For example: Trying your best to be good but you reeaally want a strawberry tart? Don't reach for the low fat low salt low cholesterol high fibre low cal cookies...they will taste like cardboard, they are a poor substitution and you will have consumed 1/2 of the calories of the strawberry tart but will not be 100% happier. You will then either decide to eat more of the cardboard cookies, eat the strawberry tart anyway or grab the nearest sweet treat and eat that. You will then have consumed more calories than if you had just eaten the strawberry tart in the first place.
Solution: JUST EAT THE STRAWBERRY TART. You will enjoy it, feel full and your craving for it will be gone.
Now this theory does not apply every day to every meal, but it's perfect for those times when you really fancy something to eat that you feel like you should avoid. Sometimes it's the small things in life that make us happy...
Strawberry tart anyone?!
