And I'm feeling good!

Hey there peeps,

Cupcake Lisa here!

As most of you will know, we recently co-hosted another fabulous 1940's bash with the super That Swing Sensation big band, at The Alona Hotel, Strathclyde Park, with over 250 guests turning out on their Forties finest to dance the night away to hits of the Era. We decided on this occasion that we would support The Mark Wright Project, Dalkeith and were delighted that 3 representatives from the charity could attend on the night, including Mark's parents, Bob and Jem. After losing their son in Afganistan in 2006, the couple were motivated to start up a charity in his memory to support ex-Service men, women & their families "in addressing the invisible wounds of war, easing ex-Service men & women’s transition into civilian life". Their centre in Dalkeith offers a range of services including information and advice, gym facilities, complimentary therapy and mental health support.

The overwhelming generousity displayed by local businesses and our guests on the night helped us to raise a whopping £1351 for The Mark Wright Project at our Puttin' on the Blitz event and band leader Jon and I had the pleasure of handing over the cheque today, when we visited the centre. Nancy (in the photo) gave us a guided tour, explaining the services and support offered to all of their service users. The centre is a lovely, welcoming space and the staff super friendly.
We also met a lovely chap Buster who is embarking on a mighty expedition in support of the charity. He assures me he'll be sending me all the info and I'll stick by my promise to blog about his fundraising efforts when he does! A cycle to Lands end and swimming the Channel were on his list to do...crikey!

The Mark Wright Project have asked us to be a part of an event they are hosting at the Corn Exchange, Edinburgh on Saturday 6th August to raise funds for the charity. Headlining will be none other than The Memphis Belle Orchestra, with The Kennedy Cupcakes and That Swing Sensation kick-starting a wonderful evening of dancing and entertainment...1940's style! Tickets go in sale next week and we'll be sure to keep you posted on how you can get yours! It's unmissable!

Today has been a good day! We are delighted to have the opportunity to visit The Mark Wright Project. It's a wonderful feeling to know the money raised will help the charity continue the invaluable services they offer that are so greatly needed by so many.

Toodle pip for now,

Lisa x
